Gilson Pond Campground

Despite true winter conditions that brought a two foot snow pack and bitter cold and winds in February and March, the contractor and his crew have continued to make great progress towards completion of the campground. The rough layout of the campground roadways has been completed. Andrew Zboray, Monadnock State Park Manager, is pleased to report that the actual campsites, although not yet fully developed, have been flagged to reveal the campsite arrangement.

The park manager is very pleased with the diversity and attractiveness of the campsites and has even reported that the blasting operations to remove ledge from the roadways has created areas with an interesting aesthetic that reveal the ledges and geology that underlay the area and Mount Monadnock.

This campsite will apparently be a rehabilitation of an old campsite from the former
private Monadnock Recreation Area campground. If you look closely at the large
tree closest to the right side of the image, there is a small sign that identifies this
former campsite as "T-12."

The park manager thinks this one might be his favorite.

Please Note: The Gilson Pond Area of Monadnock State Park is closed to all public access until further notice due to construction. Recreational users (including hikers and cross country skiers) are advised to utilize Monadnock State Park Headquarters during this time. Unidentified construction hazards and unsigned relocation of roads and trails may be present which could create difficulties and safety concerns.
