In 2003, the Monadnock State Park Master Plan for Capital Improvements and Management Strategies was adopted by the Division. The capital improvement strategy for the park envisions three phases. Phase I is the development of a family campground at the Gilson Pond Area. This new campground will have 35 new campsites and a campground bath house and administration building. This is the first new campground the Division has built in 40 years and is expected to cost $1.2 million dollars. It is expected to open in the spring of 2009. The Gilson Pond Area is closed to all public access until further notice due to construction. Please check back here before planning a visit to the Gilson Pond Area. Updates will be posted monthly, along with new pictures of the work in progress. Hikers are also asked to utilize hiking and cross country skiing opportunities other than those that originate from the Gilson Pond Area. Recreational users (including hikers and cross country skiers) are advised to utilize Monadnock State Park Headquarters during this time. Unidentified construction hazards and unsigned relocation of roads and trails may be present which could create difficulties and safety concerns. |
